  • Phillip Island WSBK Notes and Misleading Advertising?

If someone told you a race would be "Flag to Flag", how would an outside observer have any clue that this actually means " Mandatory Pit Stop and Tire Change"? Or even, "Mandatory Pit Stop Because Our Spec Tires Suck?" Oh well...

Melandri is off to the best start possible and at least at this race, the Duc clearly had both better grunt and top-end than the Kawi. We'll see how track-specific its advantages are over the next couple races... after which the new "penalty" rules may come into play. So far the new rules have not seemed to benefit the Factory Yamaha's very much, which let's face it, was the whole point of these changes. Camier has proven that the Honda can at least compete for podiums this year... though the Honda boys from the USA have a long way to go. And I can't tell if the Aprilia is actually really competitive now and its riders are not quite up to the standard of the top teams, or vice-versa...

Now we get to wait another month to see what happens next.

I was at the MotoGP in 2013 when they had the bike change. That was a test of who could count and how quickly the riders could "move" between the bikes. I preferred the WSBK wheel change - at least most riders were back on the track in approximately the same position.

PI usually doesn't mean much in terms of the rest of the season as it's quite a unique track. But Melandri looks very fit and focused - hopefully he can compete just as well at other tracks. His bike looked even worse in Race 1 - possibly something to do with running the taller development tyre. Chaz Davies will never win a championship if he keeps doing silly things like losing the front in Race 2..
