Today we went over to Spokane's annual Motorcycle show at the County fairgrounds. Keeping in mind this is NOT like the big International Motorcycle Show like they do in Seattle and other major cities each year, I was still surprised and disappointed at what was not there. As in, sportbikes and sport touring bikes. Though there were displays with new Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Ducati, KTM, Harley, BMW, and Indian bikes; here are some of the bikes I did not see: Honda CB1000 or 600RR, Ducati V4 or V2 sportbikes, Yamaha R1, R6 or FJR, Kawsaki ZX14R, ZX6R, Connie or Ninja 1000, and no Sport-oriented gear displays at all. There was one new BMW S1000 that I sat on and a ZX10R.
As you might expect, there were lots of adventure bikes, a ton of HD's and Indians, and lots of custom bikes on display (HD). The one old sport bike on display in the classic bike area was a Yamaha RZ350 Kenny Roberts edition. Lots of classic dirtbikes etc. I knew our preferred MC type was fading, but this kind of blew my mind. I could never have imagined a Ducati display complete with big red banners etc., with no evidence at all that they even made sport bikes, or are the current MotoGP and WSBK world champions.
The world has changed.
