  • So I went to a Motorcycle Show

Today we went over to Spokane's annual Motorcycle show at the County fairgrounds. Keeping in mind this is NOT like the big International Motorcycle Show like they do in Seattle and other major cities each year, I was still surprised and disappointed at what was not there. As in, sportbikes and sport touring bikes. Though there were displays with new Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Ducati, KTM, Harley, BMW, and Indian bikes; here are some of the bikes I did not see: Honda CB1000 or 600RR, Ducati V4 or V2 sportbikes, Yamaha R1, R6 or FJR, Kawsaki ZX14R, ZX6R, Connie or Ninja 1000, and no Sport-oriented gear displays at all. There was one new BMW S1000 that I sat on and a ZX10R.

As you might expect, there were lots of adventure bikes, a ton of HD's and Indians, and lots of custom bikes on display (HD). The one old sport bike on display in the classic bike area was a Yamaha RZ350 Kenny Roberts edition. Lots of classic dirtbikes etc. I knew our preferred MC type was fading, but this kind of blew my mind. I could never have imagined a Ducati display complete with big red banners etc., with no evidence at all that they even made sport bikes, or are the current MotoGP and WSBK world champions.

    The world has changed.

Would you say that there aren't many sport bike riders in the Spokane area?

Maybe the show sponsors figured that the style of riding in the area is more conducive to the style of bike the brought to display?

I have neither the time,or the inclination, to explain myself to a man, who rises and sleep under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner, in which I provide it. I'd rather you just say 'thank you' and go on your way.

I would say the proportion of sport bikes to other types I see on the road around here is similar to what I saw in the Portland and Seattle areas. I am thinking and hoping this more of a case, since it was local dealers bringing bikes to display, that they just don't have sport bikes in stock right now. Early March in snow country and all. And maybe this show is known for being HD/cruiser focused,so they cater to that vibe more...

Just for fun I googled "ZX14R" and "FJR" for sale and saw quite a few examples of new bikes of each types come up from various dealers around the country.
