  • TPS Hack

When I bought a Concours14 back in 2011 I joined the COG forum. At one point my bike started to have a funky idle and I remembered reading a post that said if your bike starts to run roungh, hard to start, etc, try this simple hack.
    1. Turn on the key but do not start the bike.
    2. Twist the throttle all the way open and hold it for 3 seconds.
    3. Close the throttle all for 3 seconds.
    4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 twice more.
    5. Turn off the ignition for a short time.
    6. Start the bike as normal.
I used this hack more than once and it seemed to fix my issue.

Fast forward to 2 days ago, I am riding my 2017 R6 to work and starts to really mess up when trying to accelerate normally from a stop. Idle seemed rough too. On the ride home it was doing the same thing. So while at a red light I employed the hack and lo and behold, the bike behaved normally once more. If I am correct, doing the hack allows the ECU to reread the throttle position sensor and reset it.

Yes, it could have been some bad gas or some other hiccup. All I know is that it has seemed to work for me on more than one occasion. Anyone else heard of this hack, or employed it?

    Good info, Mike!

Sounds like an easy way for a dealer to make 3 hours labor cost

      Still under warranty?

I have neither the time,or the inclination, to explain myself to a man, who rises and sleep under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner, in which I provide it. I'd rather you just say 'thank you' and go on your way.

        No warranty left.

I will know for sure tomorrow if all is well after using it to get to work.

          Well shit.

One downfall of today's modern machines is all of the electronic gadgets and doo dads.

I'm over on an Aprilia forum and there are always at least two threads where someone is having electronic issues with some gadget.

Should've stopped at fuel injection and ABS

Hope you get it sorted Mike.

Hurt my foot somehow, so did not ride in to work today. Drove instead. Nothing like walking 3-5 miles on a bad wheel. Maybe tomorrow. Depends on how the foot feels in the AM.

Well, my hack was not the answer. Next time I started the bike it was running awful. Cycled my hack a couple of times, and no joy. I was thinking bad plug, bad injector, or maybe a coil going bad. I ended up putting some injector cleaner in the tank. Seems to be helping. I have started and warmed the bike about 20 times over the last 2 days. It is running way better however, not perfectly. If this ends working I will be thoroughly impressed with Royal Purple injector cleaner.
