I'm not much for pace car editions/stripe packages/special editions/Bill Blass editions, Dave, but it's growing on me

Went for my first ride of 2023. A little jaunt of around 100 miles.

        Just long enough for this:

        FOOK!

I have neither the time,or the inclination, to explain myself to a man, who rises and sleep under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner, in which I provide it. I'd rather you just say 'thank you' and go on your way.

That sucks, I would just plug & patch it. With those types of punctures I do it all the time - unless the tire is at the end of it’s life, then I just spoon on a new one.

            Already done

I've never plugged a tire before but know plenty that have.

There is enough life left in it to try a plug but I have already ordered a set of new tires just in case

I usually remove the tire from the rim, plug and then patch from inside. That way I know it will last but I know lots of folks just plug them with no problems.

Yeah, if the tire had quite a bit of life left I might have went that route. I just wanted to give this a go to see if I could do it and how well it worked.

That sucks, Mike. Why did you choose a phillips-head? Is it JIS? I prefer the torx head screws for flats. They are less likely to rowl out and I like to test myself.

Just pure, dumb luck I guess

I've plugged tires that still have life on them several times. Most of the time they've been fine till the tire wears out. I did have one that when the tread started getting low the plug started leaking. At that point I just replaced it with a new one. YMMV.

Well spring has sprung in the great white north, or so it seems. The weather is still unsettled but the snow is gone in the city and we have had enough nice days to tempt me to ride. On Saturday I went to the motor vehicle registry office and renewed the registration on the bike. I took it for a short city ride later in the day and then Sunday afternoon I got out west of the city for a few hours in the sunshine. It felt great to get out on two wheels again.

Glad to hear it! Our snow is gone in Spokane though not in Republic, and the roads are all sandy etc. Need to get the new rear tire mounted so I can venture out when things improve.

I was looking at my rear tire and checked my maintenance logs. I was surprised to see I’ve got just over 10,000 kms on the current Michelin Road 5’s I have on. They don’t look bad, I think I can get another 2500 kms out of the rear but that will be it. I was online yesterday pricing out the Michelin Road 6. They are my choice for my next new shoes.

There is still some sand and gravel at the intersections and on the corners here too. Caution is definitely in order when riding early in the season in our neck of the woods.

Wow, that is impressive tire life on a ZX14R. I need to think about going to a "ST" type tire when these Metzlers are shot. I got 3000 miles out of a rear and about 4000 out of a front with the sport tires I have been running, and I don't push as hard in the turns as I used to.
