I hate to say this, but BMW make some good bikes. I rode a R1200RT for a week in Australia, and once I'd got used to the weird front suspension, had a lot of fun in the twisties. I'd say it would be a bit underpowered with a pillion and full load though.

If we are going the BMW route then I'd recommend K 1300 S.
Had one in between my ZX 14's.
I'd still have it but it got hit by lightening and it blew the electronics on it.I have neither the time,or the inclination, to explain myself to a man, who rises and sleep under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner, in which I provide it. I'd rather you just say 'thank you' and go on your way.

If I added something it'd be a 14R

I recently attended a kwak demo day and took out a 22 plate versys 1000 se grand tourer. It felt like an armchair with the same performance.
Then took out the ninja1000sx. Wow what a difference. Comfy, responsive, powerful, but would need a different windscreen because of the buffering.
I’m now on the look out for a 1000sx performance model. From a zed1200 with mods to a ninja 1000sx that’s the way forward.
Thats my opinion

And here's my latest ride, a low mileage 2015 FJR1300. Not as high tech as my former '16A model but it'll do.

After buying my first FJR, I rec'd. much grief from my Kawi 'friends' for doing so. Believe me, I checked out the Connie in comparison before doing so. The three main issues I had w/the Connie were:
1) It's a pig and top heavy. As heavy/top heavy as the FJR is, the Concours is worse. Yeah, yeah, save the hate, you Connie lovers. And...
2) The Connie lacks cruise control- absolutely inexcusable for an ST. Sure, you can throw a throttle lock at it but it's not CC. Once you've gone CC, it's tough to go back. And frankly, it's the 21st century. Everything is electronic or throttle by wire nowadays; fer criminy sakes, CC has been around for decades. Almost no excuse for it to not be on every bike, much less a dedicated ST.
3) Maintenance- W/the exception of the basics- like oil/battery changes- I generally don't do my own but hands down, the FJR is reportedly so much easier to work on than the Concours.
IMHO, the FJR is just about as near perfect for an ST if you're gonna shop them. Yamaha has been refining this bike for almost 2 decades now. My only druthers are its weight and yes, she can be top heavy, especially w/a full tank. Outside of that, it's a fantastic ride or else I wouldn't have purchased Forum Actually I never should've sold Home
As mentioned earlier, if I were shopping for a lightweight ST and only for one-up riding, I'd likely have ended up back on a current gen Ninja 1000. But for two-up ST comfort, one simply cannot beat the FJR, especially the '16 & up gen. And the general rumor is that 2023 is the last year of the FJR and not to be replaced by Yamaha.

I'm heading over to the dark side. 70 next year, and looking to change bikes, for a bit more comfort.
The ZZR has always been an excellent bike for me, still runs exceptionally well and is an adrenalin rush.
I owned a 2002 FJR1300 at one stage, and it was a nice comfortable bike. However, it found it to "gentlemanly" at the time, and sold it to buy the ZZR.
But ....
I've now put a deposit down on a low milage 2019 FJR1300AE.
Whether I sell the ZZR remains to be seen.
Forget the ones that forget you ....

Hey, I got friends that ride the FJR! Not that there's anything wrong with that (heh heh). I might engage something a little more two-up oriented in a few more years, but right now my preferred riding pace really pisses off the wife..."The Price of Speed is Eternal Vigilance" 2015 ZX14R 30th, Four Kids
