Yeah, I read that a few days ago on the MotoGP site. He's riding a Suter chassis with a BMW S1000RR engine.
I guess the Tech 3 thing didn't work out or the team didn't want to be associated with the CRT thing.

    Re: MotoGP CRT Explained

The CRT teams have been given an advantage in fuel capacity and number of engines allowed per season. The thinking is they may be competitive within a couple of seasons and will immediately increase the number of teams gridding bikes because they are cheaper than full-on prototypes. The danger is that the factories may pull the prototypes rather than spend the cash when a production-based engine can produce competitive power. When and if that happens, the rules may have to be massaged again. You can bet the factory R&D facilities will have production-based engines running on the test stands either to sell units and parts or beat the CRT teams when they rise to the occasion. Hopefully the CRT rule will have all the desired effect with none of the negative possibilities. There is talk of spec ECUs and the CRT teams will use mandated bore and stroke dimensions to go with the spec tires everybody has to use.

The bonus of the CRT teams is that we'll get two races for one - prototypes and CRTs.

I'm betting that we're going to see a lot of the CRTs on TV.

Once Stoner races off to a 5 second lead, the TVs will be on the CRTs.

Hah, good point. Like watching Matt Mladin and Ben Spies in AMA Superbikes. The only question was "who's going to come in 3rd?"
I feel that the smaller riders will struggle with fatigue towards the end of the race. Bigger riders won't be as subjected to it.
Ben and Collin should do fine. Simoncelli would have also.

    Re: MotoGP CRT Explained

Livio Suppo, MGP team manager with Honda (formerly with Ducati) has a good idea: Embrace the reality, and have two classes within MotoGP; Prototype and CRT. Just like the American LeMans series, with both prototype cars and GT (the Corvette/911 etc) production cars racing at once. No way CRT's are going to beat the Factories, (the riders as well as the bikes are a quantum leap better) may as well have two trophies and twice as much fun!

2 classes in 1 would be nice, but imagine that shame if a factory team cough Ducati cough was consistently beaten by a CRT team!

    Re: MotoGP CRT Explained

It may end up being closer racing than we all currently believe. Power produced and power put to the pavement are two related but different things, especially in the electronics age. This will put more onus on the riders if they end up with a spec ECU. When Ducati gets their front-end traction issue resolved with a new chassis flex program, they will be right there.
