Re: Goin' on a summer holiday...... in the rain

Had a good ride home but no photos sorry. Once I'm in the groove on a fun section of road I find it very difficult to pull over and take a photo. Must do better next time. The Zed feels completely in its element on more open roads with medium-fast corners, but does surprisingly well in the tighter stuff. The bike is comfortable for up to about 2 hours, which is a good time to have a break. Would certainly want a better seat if I regularly rode 8 hour plus days.

Did have a problem with the lowered pegs and the foot brake though. Because I have to twist my foot inwards to get my boot on the brake lever pad, my foot started to get sore after a while and it got harder to use the brake. I really don't want to go back to the standard pegs as lowering the pegs has completely cured the occasional hip pain on long rides so I may need an ingenious DWC-style solution to move the lever outwards without causing issues with ground clearance.

I'd forgotten how much fun Northland roads are on a bike, will be heading that way again this summer, if it ever comes.

2.5 - 3 days plus a 3-hour ferry trip to ride from north to south. Depending where you are, about a day from east to west.

It would take about a week to ride around the coast of either the North or South Island. So yes, there is plenty of good bike riding here.

And sometimes that ferry trip is NOT pleasant.
IIRC, we had 50 knot winds and 20+ foot seas when I made the Cook Straight crossing from North to South island.
