Motorcycle shop **New pics**
So frankly I spend too much time on the Garage Journal forum dreaming of having the ultimate space for my toys and a great work area. Recently I started converting a 9x21 room attached to my garage into a shop. On one end I hope to have enough space for 1 bike so I can tear it down and work on it and not worry about having to pick up everything every day like in the garage.
Originally this room was going to be a Sunroom or family room but the way things have gone with the market and finances I did not and could not dump $1000's into it. I have a "shop" so to speak on the side of the house but its location and size limited my options. In the mean time the room off the garage became a junk box holding all the extra stuff accumulated and was a mess. I started off by gutting this room out, throwing away 30% and reorganizing an additional chunk where it belongs. The remaining will go into the old shop along with all the building materials I have accumulated in my remodeling over the years.
I am now turning the corner on this thing and hoping for some input. One thing I need is a bike stand/table. I cant afford one of those nice pneumatic repair lifts so it will have to be built by me. Wood, Metel or a combo is fine. I also want it to be portable enough I can either fold up or tip it up out of the way.
Post up some pics of you bike stands and work areas. I am looking for any good organization ideas, work benches, anything I can use to make this place efficient and user friendly.Last edited by JeffS; 02-01-2012 at 12:13 AM.

Re: Motorcycle shop
I was going to make the same suggestion...
I hear good things about the Harbor Freight lift table.
Wasn't sure if you're in the Fresno or Sac area...
Fresno:

Nothing in CL for Sac today... I see them often in DFW.

Re: Motorcycle shop
Those are all great guys but as I posted I am not gonna dump hundreds into a prefab table. I am looking for something home built that I can build. In a few years when I get the wife and kids finished with college ill jump off my wallet......

Re: Motorcycle shop
Hey Jeff, I built a nifty motorcycle table out of 2x8's for the top surface and 2x6's for the verticals and box sections that has been the Bees Knees. It was cheap to build and sturdy as heck.
Then I use one of my motorcycle chalks out of my truck and lag bolt it down for use on the table. It's also just wide enough to support the wheel track width of a spool stand. Wish I could say I planned it that way but it's one of those things that just worked out. I have 2 sets of motorcycle ramps (2 in a set for 4 total) that I bolt together to load and unload bikes in my truck. I use one of those ramps to get bikes up and down off of the table. Also I wound up going to Home Depot for the lumber because they have carts full of discounted lumber. Anything under 8' is marked down to about 20% of the 8' price so I have about $25 in the entire motorcycle bench. I'll send you the particulars if you'd like.

Re: Motorcycle shop
I saw a design in a bike mag a few months ago. I'll have a look for the issue at the weekend.
This might be a dumb question, but exactly how do you get a Zed up a bike ramp and onto a bench?06 Midnight Blue ZZR1200, the coolest colour.
