Why not just flip the rim over, so the rotor is up, out of harm's way - that's what I do when changing out
tires - for the front, I place two pieces of wood under the rim, to protect the rotor facing down.
If not careful, you can end up resting the tire changing bar on the disc as you spin the tire off.

Or, as you are leveraging the bar under the tire bead you torque it against the disc.

As far as flipping the wheel over, the front wheel has two discs


So, if someone is really concerned aboout the discs Id recommend just taking them off.

Won't take but five minutes.
